different directions on patterns....

hi guys new on here..... was looking at pattern a6685 and the circles with arrows don't look like the ones on the other pattens they are circles with arrows pointing straight right or left and straight down can anyone know if this is the same as forward and backward or some thing completely different....xx |

That's an Alpha pattern, if you go to the tuts and check out the alpha/letter pattern tut you can see the directions of the knots |
