I want to make a wider section of my bracelet in the middle, possibly going from 12 to 36 strings... is this possible??

It is possible, but it matters what pattern you are doing. Some patterns require a certain number of strings, and you can't just make it wider by adding strings. But it is possible to add more strings if thats the look you're going for. It might be tricky, though.

hmm depends, did you already start the bracelet?
It would be easier to start with 36 strings and the decrease the number of threads...
