Alpha patterns rejected for no discernable reason?

Two alpha patterns I made were rejected, but I have no idea why. I've checked the terms of use and the page in the FAQ about it and as far as I can tell, I haven't broken any rules. The only reason I can think of is that they are too similar to each other and both got rejected. If someone could tell me why they were rejected, that would be great.
