How to manage long strands when braiding with a kumihimo? by TovinoThomas 5 years ago

Send PM

I'm looking for suggestions on how to manage really long strands so they don't get all tangled up. I want to make a long braid, and will probably be using strands longer than 6 feet, and I remember when i was doing this a long time ago with strands maybe 4 ft they were constantly getting tangled, and I spent like half the time just trying to untangle them.

You can use bobbins. Either the ones used for kumihimos, or cardboard ones, for example. I?ve also seen people just rolling them up and putting rubber bands around them.

Wrap them around clothespins and only unwind the bit you need to work on that part.
