In an alpha pattern base strings can have a different thickness than leading strings but every base string still needs needs to have the same thickness and every leading string also needs to have the same thickness.

If your string has a different thickness the bracelet will get uneven. I wouldn't recommend using string of different thickness in a normal pattern unless you want that effect.
