what is the difference between d rings and regular rings

the way i did it was i just did the macrame buckle starter ( https://www.friendship-bracelets.net/tutorial.php?id=523 ) then i did the bracelet.

Then at the end, using a split ring, i just put the loop on the ring.

D rings have a flat side while regular ones are just round

is their another difference or is it only the look

"D" rings aren't split, as far as I know...

Since D rings have the flat side, it might be easier to start a bracelet pattern on than the round ones, especially if the pattern is wider.
