I hope the problem has been solved definitively. Since we lost popularity, being down for so many days doesn't help us at all ...

Nicolas said he has been working 70+ hours a week for his job lately. He hopes it will return to normal in about a month from now.
There was a server issue and he thought it worked out fine after restarting, but apparently it needed another re-start .....

I get that everybody has it’s own life besides this website, but I totally agree with Cecilia that if you take a role as webmaster, or as moderator, you should have at least time to check in regularly.
At least to let us know that you’re busy for a while. And in this case there’s no-one who can fill the gap, we only have one webmaster....

At least he responded quickly today.

Nicolas: I tried to edit https://friendship-bracelets.net/patterns/11213 to make the blue a bit darker, but the pattern doesn’t appear in the generator....
(I’d rather reject this pattern btw, but apparently someone is knotting it ...)

I think it happens with all patterns that have an uneven amount of rows. Patterns shouldn’t have uneven amounts of rows.....

The site keeps logging me out lately. Can that be fixed, Nicolas?

I wanted to let you know I read all the messages. I'm aware I haven't spent as much time as I was supposed to on FB since "new website". The website still has some problems, but some important changes have been made. One for example, with the old website we would have faced major problems this year (and the pattern generators would be completely unusable by the beginning of 2021 as flash technology won't be supported anymore by most major browsers).

That's all technical stuff but my goal here is to help you realize that tremendous amount of effort was put in the website in the beginning of the year to avoid those problems and improve some things. When I became webmaster Stefan warned me that it's a real challenge to work full time in IT and work on the website at the same time and I realize how true it is...

I think BB has done a great job with their new site, but I truly think FB could be much better and my goal is still to bring that to the table. I had a decent part of the new design in place when I had to stop working on the site this year, but I didn't want to push it forward as it wasn't the quality I was looking for.

Rest assure that there'll be considerable improvements over the next year.

@kleinevos : regarding the problem of "getting logged out" it still happens? From what I remember you stay logged in for 1 month when you chech the "keep me logged in". I'd really suspect it might be caused by clearing history of the browser... It can be automatic (some browser have the option to do it automatically when you close them) or it can be made manually (by you or someone else who's using the computer). Let me know.

Regarding the pattern 11213 I have the same problem, I should be able to take a look tomorrow.

The logging out doesn’t happen anymore. It might have been after I updated my IpadOS, I’m not sure. Maybe the ‘stay logged in’ disappeared at that moment.

Can you also (for moderators) enable the editing of patterns with less than 6 strings?

I know you did a good job on renewing the site earlier this year! It’s just so frustrating to see people run away to BraceletBook while we were always the main site for friendshipbracelet lovers.... My main point is that that means it’s very hard to get new, good moderators. We always had an active community, where we could choose which user could be asked to become a moderator. And we did that about twice every year. Now, we don’t have enough active moderators to keep up with pattern checking and I really don’t know who we can ask, because we don’t get the chance to get to know people. Just because we don’t have an active forum anymore. Starting new challenges wasn’t the solution so far.
I think the main solution has to come from an attractive and easy to use website, good tutorials and good generators.
(I’d love to go through our tutorials for updates, clean ups, improvements, etc. If I had time for that...)

So my frustration is not only about the bugs, but bugs don’t help to get (and keep) users here.

I hope, together, we will be able to keep this site a nice place to go to!

I totally agree with you about the solution which is making the site a better place. Also, I still think having a website that is mobile friendly (responsive website) will really help us reach an higher adoption rate (or simply to help us keep our users) and is one of the first step to go forward with this.

Good to know the login problem has gone. Regarding the "moderator being able to edit patterns of less than 6 strings" I think that's related to the generator (for some reason it works when creating a pattern but it can't load an existing pattern in some cases). I suspect it's related to the problem you mentionned about pattern #11213... I'll start digging and if I have enough time to fix it I'll let you know in this tread, otherwise I'll take a look on Monday.

Ok, I think I've found the problem (I tested specifically for pattern #11213 but I guess it happened in other cases too). There's a validation in the generator "editor" that prevents editing patterns with an uneven number of rows. Do you see any valid reason why it should be so? When I remobe this condition, I am able to load the pattern 11213... Let me know, I'll have some other things to fix (some library needs updating before I can update the site) but chances are good I can push a fix monday.

Patterns need to be repeating in our current generator. That was done to prevent patterns that are too random. I suppose that’s also why the uneven amount of rows was disabled. You can’t repeat a pattern with uneven amount of rows.
So, for moderators it would be good to have the ability to edit all patterns, patterns with less than 6 strings and patterns with uneven amount of rows included, but for users it’s fine as it is.

I agree about the mobile friendly site. Several people have also asked for an app.

Other thing is, I think many people miss the ability of changing colors for an existing pattern. We disabled that for normal users, but if I speak for myself: I’m glad I’m a moderator and can still make screenshots of existing patterns in the colors I want to knot ..... Is it possible to come up with a solution for normal users soon?
